Telemetrics’ New PT-RM-1 Pan/Tilt Head Features
Posted on Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Amsterdam, Netherlands – Camera robotics and control systems are increasingly utilized in live television production to meet the demand for higher efficiency, and creativity. Telemetrics is showcasing its newest manual/servo pan/tilt head here at IBC. The PT-RM-1 Pan/Tilt Headfeatures an internal fiber transmission module and single hybrid connecting cable to handle all the units pan/tilt and camera control signals, power and camera video. This eliminates the need for a separate fiber system greatly reducing overall costs. Additionally, the new PT-RM-1 is available with a 360 degree slip ring for continuous rotation capability.

“Our new PT-RM-1 Pan/Tilt Head incorporates a host of new capabilities that increase functionality while reducing total cost of ownership,” said Anthony Cuomo, Vice President and General Manager, Telemetrics, Inc. “The PT-RM-1Pan/Tilt Head sets a new benchmark for performance and efficiency that provides technical operations with an optimized solution to meet today’s most demanding production and budgetary requirements.”

The PT-RM-1’s precision pan/tilt head features heavy duty bearings and a belt drive system to provide smooth and quiet operation. It is designed to allow motion through sequence of position or motion record playback with motion profiles being field adjustable. The unit is capable of variable operating speeds including a velocity range of 0.005° to 90°/second, an acceleration speed of up to 90°/second with 3.6 arc/sec accuracy and a stopping accuracy of +/- 15 arc-sec.

Multi-axis control includes pan, tilt, zoom, focus, track, Televator®, dolly, iris and master pedestal. Up to 255 pre-sets can be memorized and the pre-set recall function features an on-the-fly time parameter to enable all axes to start and stop simultaneously using pre-programmed acceleration parameters. The PT-RM-1 is also available with a slip ring option to allow continuous 360 degree rotation.

Robotics controls are via RS-232, RS-422 or 10/100 BaseT Ethernet. Control of the lens is analog or digital. Power is provided from a 48V DC source, and a DC-DC converter provides the appropriate levels to power the pan/tilt head, camera, lens, optional teleprompter and other auxiliary robotic devices. A serial camera control interface for most Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Ikegami and Hitachi cameras is available.

To assist in more easily managing cables, the PT-RM-1 Pan/Tilt Head is designed with a provision for harnessing power, serial/Ethernet control, video, genlock and prompter video cables at the base of the pan/tilt unit. The tilt yoke provides a direct interface to the camera, lens and optional teleprompter to avoid twisted cables when the unit is rotated. The PT-RM-1 may be installed upright or inverted and can support a dynamic load of up to 35 pounds. It is available with a fiber optic option for all-fiber connectivity and easy installation.
