AUDIOSCIENCE'S ASI5416 COBRANET LINEAR PCI SOUND CARD
Posted on Friday, March 13, 2009

NEWCASTLE, DE (March 13, 2009) – AudioScience, Inc., a leader of professional audio peripherals for the broadcast and entertainment industries, is setting a new price point for CobraNet-enabled PC adapters. AudioScience unveils the ASI5416 CobraNet PCI sound card.
In AudioScience's efforts to provide a value-added product to customers in the CobraNet marketplace, they realized that not all customers/installations require MPEG encoding or AudioScience's TSX time scaling, two major features of their ASI6416 CobraNet PCI sound card. The result is the ASI5416, a linear PCI sound card with these features removed, resulting in a significantly lower price point.

The ASI5416 is a professional PCI sound card designed for use in the installed sound and entertainment markets. Using Cirrus Logic’s CobraNet technology for streaming audio over Ethernet, the ASI5416 provides 16 mono inputs and outputs. It can be connected to any CobraNet compliant device. The sound card is based on the TMS320C6713 floating point DSP connected to a high-speed bus-master PCI interface. AudioScience MRX technology allows up to 16 streams of different formats and sample rates to be played, recorded and mixed over CobraNet. A choice of 16, 24, and 32bit PCM is available on all streams.

Richard Gross, President of AudioScience, explained, “Our customers have expressed that their present applications and requirements are more cost driven then feature driven. In response to this, ASI has reduced the feature set on the ASI5416 and provided our customers with a more aggressive price point. When mentioning this to some of our customers, we have received immediate positive feedback.”
Drivers are provided for Windows XP, Server 2003, and Vista, as well as for Linux. 64-bit drivers are available for Windows Vista and Linux. AudioScience's application, ASIControl, allows CobraNet routing connections to be made between the ASI5416 and any other CobraNet compliant device on the network. SDKs are available for Windows and Linux using either standard APIs such as DirectSound or ALSA, or the proprietary AudioScience HPI and ASX interfaces.
