Avitech Multiviewers Score for Euro Cup 2008 Transmission Monitoring
Posted on Sunday, June 29, 2008

June 29, 2008 - Redmond, Washington, USAAvitech International Corporation, an industry leader in multi-image display processors announced that through VIDI Video Digital GmbH, a leading German-based broadcast equipment distributor, they have supplied Swisscom with a host of multi-image display processors for use during the 2008 Euro Cup.

The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2008, is the 13th UEFA European Football Championship, a quadrennial football tournament for European nations. The tournament, which is being hosted by Austria and Switzerland, began on 7 June 2008 and is scheduled to conclude with the final at Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna on 29 June 2008. It is the second successful joint bid in the competition's history.

A total of 63 Avitech MCC-8004UEL Multiviewers are being used by Swisscom’s Broadcast Division for monitoring high definition (HD) video feeds in both the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) and the Euro Cup stadiums. Each stadium has been outfitted with between two and four flight cases, which include a Media Links MD6000 chassis containing transmission equipment and up to four Avitech’s MCC-8004 modules for transmission monitoring. There are four stadia situated in Austria; Vienna, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and Salzburg and four stadia in Switzerland; Basel, Zurich Bern and Geneva. The International Broadcasting Centre is also equipped with MCC-8004 multiviewer modules, which are being used to visually monitor incoming HD stadium feeds. In both cases, Avitech’s Multiviewers are being used in conjunction with the Media Links video transport system.

The MCC-8004UEL is part of Avitech’s MCC-8004 Universal Series of multi-image display processors. Each module is capable of auto-detecting 4 HD / SD-SDI / composite video (PAL / NTSC) inputs and also includes 32 channels of embedded audio. Each MCC-8004UEL series module is autonomous -- in case one module fails, only the corresponding 4 input signals are lost. This feature is absolutely key during mission critical applications such as the Euro Cup global sporting event.

VIDI Video Digital GmbH, Avitech’s distributor in Germany provided all the Multiviewers for Swisscom’s requirements, as well as on-site Euro Cup technical support. Joerg Zieme, VIDI’s Managing Director comments, “We are excited to continue supporting Avitech as the company builds up its HD capabilities to meet the requirements of the evolving European broadcast sporting market. These types of applications demand a wide range of flexibility requirements, which Avitech’s systems meet.”

The Avitech systems are designed to work efficiently in sports production environments, offering key features such as; on-screen alarm indicators for video and audio status, exceptionally low power consumption, embedded audio monitoring, and tally, all while maintaining the correct aspect ratio whether it be 4:3 or 16:9.

“We are extremely proud to be involved with and providing equipment to support the UEFA Euro Cup 2008,” comments Michel Rudelle, Avitech’s European Regional Manager. “These types of opportunities solidify Avitech’s strong presence in the mission-critical sporting event market.”

The Avitech series of MCC-8004 multiviewers will be on display at the upcoming IBC2008 tradeshow in Amsterdam, The Netherlands – September 12-16, 2008, Booth #11.A67.
