The Infrared Generation: 10 Years Solving Common AV Challenges with TAIDEN Wireless Microphones

As TAIDEN launches a complete revamp on its bestselling microphone solution – The Digital Infrared Wireless Conference System – with new Series HCS-5380 to be introduced at InfoComm, Media Vision takes a look back at the reasons for the line’s huge success, presenting its AV problem-solving values through select projects where this unique patented wireless solution was implemented, and the positive outlook for the new line.

“I will give you one tremendous value of digital infrared audio processing over any RF-based solution: we’ve never had to work around the breathtaking complexity of the radio spectrum. We at Media Vision have been blissfully ignoring the debate for ten years, and so have our clients.” says Annabelle Gazzo, Director of Marketing.

A large number of projects where specifiers vouch for the company’s digital IR solution are multipurpose and divisible meeting spaces, such as this 2-way divisible room at a Washington DC-based organization. Facilities managers there have a need for flexibility in the configuration of microphone assets, as one combined pool or multiple independent systems. With RF systems however, achieving diverse configurations routinely includes cumbersome steps such as the need to reset frequencies, or label and assign microphones to specific rooms. There is also the risk of RF interferences of all kinds.

“Ease of use for the customer is a key selling point for the TAIDEN infrared solution.” Says Patrick Herlihy, VP of System Solutions at Media Vision, “You can extend or contract a system without need for reconfiguration, and microphones can be borrowed from one room to another with ease due to auto-handshaking”. Additionally, a room combiner facilitates seamless merging and division of spaces with third party control interfaces.

When there are privacy concerns, infrared light is the right choice as an inherently secure medium for wireless audio and data transmission. This was a prime concern for the City of Newport, UK, as they upgraded their conference system to enable quality webcasting at their council chambers: the TAIDEN infrared solution has proved to be the safest solution to ensure the privacy of discussions during non-broadcasted sessions.

As these select projects also show, excellent IR coverage can be achieved in all environments including historic assembly halls and complex architectures with columns and sightline obstacles. The Media Vision team is on a mission to debunk the remaining myths associated with IR solutions; their CTS-RU approved online course outlines the physical attributes of digital infrared wireless systems and the best practices for specifying the required components.

Now, the new generation is on its way… at InfoComm this year, Media Vision will unveil the TAIDEN Wireless IR Series HCS-5380 featuring a complete microphone redesign with a smaller form factor. Great aesthetics is now added to the abundant values of the line: achieving high fidelity audio and solving so many challenges with utmost simplicity for facilities managers.
