Posted on Thursday, July 24, 2014

Niles, IL, July 24, 2014– Shure is pleased to announce the winner of the 12th annual Montreux Jazz Voice Competition, Alita Moses. With the internationally renowned Montreux Jazz Festival and sponsored by Shure Incorporated, the competition strives to promote and nurture talented young vocalists from around the world. Alita Moses took top honors, with Laura Perrudin coming in second, and Myriam Bouk Moun taking third prize.

This year’s competition received almost 100 entries from vocalists representing 34 different countries. The jury was presided over by jazz vocalist and Montreux Festival regular Sweet Georgia Brown. The finals, which were held in the Petitie Theatre at Montreux Palace, took place on July 12, 2014. Each vocalist was asked to perform two pieces: one selected from a provided list of jazz standards and a second song of the participant’s choice.

Winner Alita Moses is from Connecticut and in her final year as a Jazz Vocal Major at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She performs in several R&B, indie, and pop bands in the Philadelphia area. For her winning performance, she sang “Amour T’es La” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

Second place winner Laura Perrudin is a harpist, composer, and singer.  She performed “I Get a Kick Out Of You” and “Born to Be Blue.”  Third prize winner Myriam Bouk Moun sang “Groovin’ High” followed by her own composition, “You Don’t Know What Love Is.”

“Shure is proud to support talented young vocalists the world over by continuing our long-standing association with the Montreux Jazz Voice competition for the 12th consecutive year,” said Nils Proesser, Marketing Director for Shure Europe. “Every year, the finalists’ interpretations and performances are a delight to behold.  This year’s finalists were no exception.”
