Wallingford, CT – December 22nd, 2020. McCann Systems is pleased to announce the winners of the first annual McCann Systems Scholarship, focused on giving financial assistance to deserving students in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields of study.
With nearly 100 qualified applicants in the field, the decision was a difficult one. Two submissions stood out and have been awarded this year’s scholarship: Vishal Ravi, living in Los Angeles and studying at Purdue, and Haley Hummel, out of Phoenix, studying at Arizona State University.
Vishal Ravi graduated as valedictorian from his high school and took every available college-level STEM class. He also led his robotics club and his tennis team to award-winning performances. Vishal is on his way to earning his B.S. in Aerospace and Astronautics Engineering at Purdue University. AAE at Purdue is the number four ranking program from the 2020 U.S. News and World Report.
“I would love to live on another planet- like Mars,” Vishal noted in a sit down with Josh Bittner, SVP of Sales and Marketing at McCann Systems. “It sounds scary at first, but not when you realize it could be the future home for the human species.” Vishal will continue to aim high- sometimes literally- in his future endeavors.
Haley Hummel will graduate from Arizona State University in 2023 with a double major in Psychology and Global Health. She is also an Undergraduate Research Assistant, adding to a stacked resume of excellent experiences. A former volunteer and tutor, Haley’s eventual goal is to become a clinical psychologist, helping people overcome their obstacles.
“Although psychology is not always classified into STEM, my research experience in psychology labs has shown me just how empirical psychology research is,” said Haley. She’s right- psychology is not consistently recognized as a central discipline of STEM, and as such, psychologists often go overlooked for these funding opportunities. McCann Systems made sure to acknowledge the core sciences and the social sciences required to be a successful student of this field.
Thank you to every applicant- this was a very accomplished field. McCann Systems has committed to doubling the scholarship investment they are making in 2021, bringing more help to our future stars of STEM studies.
