Draper At Home and Best for Kids™

May 8, 2024 - Beginning June 1, 2024, all Draper® At Home bead chain operated window shades will be compliant with the new child safety standard, ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022. The standard requires all custom window coverings, such as those offered by Draper At Home, which have cords or chains for operation, to be furnished with a tensioned hold-down device that is permanently attached and partially disables the product if not installed correctly.

Even though our bead chain shades will comply with the new standard, it’s important to point out that window shades without bead chains are inherently even safer. And to provide peace of mind to our customers, several products are now Best for Kids certified.

The Best for Kids™ certification program is overseen by the Window Covering Safety Council to help consumers make the right choices when selecting window coverings. Certified products have been tested by a third-party laboratory and, upon meeting the criteria, are certified Best for Kids.

Best for Kids products either have no cords, no operating cords and inner cords that are not accessible, or if accessible inner cords are present, they cannot create a hazardous loop.

Here are Draper At Home shading solutions that are now certified Best for Kids:

  • Battery-Operated Shades: Battery operated window shades are the simplest and most economical way to install motorized window shades. There is no wiring required, so installation is as easy as clutch-operated shades. [Integration into building control and smart home automation systems is a snap.
  • Motorized Shades: Line and low voltage shades are easy to use with options to integrate into any type of control system, including whole building automation and smart home systems.
  • Coming Soon: The Ascend! The Ascend’s ultra-safe cordless operation requires only a light touch of the hand upwards at the bottom of the hembar to retract. The Ascend will be available with both FlexStyle™ and FlexShade® hardware.
