Description

Barco has provided advanced diagnostic display technology for the extension of the Beskid Oncology Center in Bielsko-Bia?a, now one of the most modern centers in Poland. To offer better treatment for its oncological patients, the hospital management decisively went for the certified quality of Barco and its partners.

24 September 2021 saw the opening of a new pavilion of the Beskid Oncology Center, part of the Municipal Hospital of John Paul II in Bielsko-Bia?a. The modern center for comprehensive diagnostics and treatment of oncological patients has the most advanced medical facilities, including a nuclear medicine facility, a magnetic resonance imaging room, and a high-end diagnostic imaging facility with an X-ray laboratory, two computed tomography laboratories, a mammography laboratory, a stereotactic biopsy laboratory and an ultrasound laboratory. The center will be able to provide health services to thousands of patients from the city and surrounding areas.

The hospital also makes use of the most advanced medical imaging equipment, including Siemens CT scanners, a hybrid SPECT / CT system from Mediso, a Hologic mammography system, magnetic resonance imaging, an additional lung imaging station, and an AGFA PACS system with diagnostic displays from Barco, to be used by the center’s radiology staff.

Diagnostic confidence

To effectively fight the widespread distribution of cancer, the hospital wanted to make use of the highest quality of diagnostic imaging technology. Lech W?drychowicz, director of the oncology center stated: “We want our diagnostic imaging technology to be of the highest level and fully integrated with the treatment. Our clinic is now a reference center for the treatment of breast and colorectal cancer. The effectiveness of treatment in such centers is up to 30 percent higher than in centers that do not meet the quality criteria.”

For Barco, it was clear that the hospital did not consider quality to be a buzz word. The management wanted to follow the strict requirements of the European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC and Class IIb monitors are manufactured according to strict quality requirements and audited by independent authorities.

Better patient outcomes thanks to Barco

As part of the AGFA PACS system, Barco delivered six Coronis Fusion 4MP displays with MXRT-4700 display controllers for general radiology and multi-modality applications, two sets of Nio Color 5MP displays with MXRT-6700 display controllers and two sets of Coronis 5MP displays for mammography applications.

The Barco monitors will help the radiology team at the Beskid Oncology Center to perform the most accurate interpretations, and even help to identify lesions that may not be detectable with conventional monitors. For mammography applications more specifically, the Barco displays will help the team to visualize microcalcifications with increased diagnostic accuracy.
