Emergency Communications in Lifts - Don't Leave Your Clients Hanging in Mid-Air
Posted on Monday, November 25, 2019

There are two ways to avoid emergency communication system outages.

VoLTE

VoLTE, or Voice over LTE, is a solution mobile operators are using to replace voice communication which is still transferred using older 2G and 3G networks. VoLTE gateways needed for purely voice communication have been available on the market for several years already. Unfortunately, the modern codecs used in VoLTE networks cannot always reliably handle DTMF transfer, which is an essential functionality for lift signalisation protocols (P100, CPC). For this reason, VoLTE must be regarded as only a partial solution.

SIP via LTE

A better solution is a scenario where voice is transferred using a SIP protocol. All of the multimedia information is converted at the 4G/LTE gateway into a SIP protocol, which then provides reliable transfer to the lift control centre.

The lift industry is experiencing a modernisation boom, and emergency communication systems are no exception. IP technology offers interesting advantages and options to increase added value for users and lift companies.
