Kramer Introduces VA-1VGA EDID Emulator

 

VA-1VGA Ensures Proper Signal Management in Systems
 
Hampton, New Jersey– March 16, 2009 – Kramer Electronics, Ltd., a worldwide supplier of audio, video and computer graphics signal distribution, switching and processing equipment for the broadcast, production, security, education, home theater and Pro AV presentation markets, is pleased to announce the introduction of the VA-1VGA computer graphics EDID emulator.
 
Part of the Kramer TOOLS™ line of compact solution products, the VA-1VGA will capture and emulate the EDID data of a display. EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is a data-structure consisting of 128 pieces of information that a display provides to the graphics card of a connected computer source to describe its capabilities so that the source can output the best possible signal for that display. The EDID information is conveyed between the source and the display via a standard known as the Display Data Channel 2 (DDC2) utilizing pins 12 and 15 of a standard 15-pin HD computer graphics video signal connector.
 
Kramer’s VA-1VGA ensures that if a display is turned off, temporarily disconnected or for any reason unable to be seen by the source, the source will still output the best possible signal resolution. The VA-1VGA will “trick” the source into thinking the display is still directly connected even when the EDID information is unavailable.

 

Systems that include the use of matrix switchers, distribution amplifiers, 5 wire coax signal distribution and range extenders such as those that convert computer graphics video signals for transmission over twisted pair cables, inherently do not have the ability to pass the EDID information, as pins 12 and 15 from the source are not available. In all these instances, the VA-1VGA can be used to capture the display’s EDID information and when inserted into the system just after the source, it will send the EDID information to the source allowing the best possible signal resolution to be output. Even though the DDC2 channel is not connected from the source all the way through to the display, the source will still effectively “see” the display.
